This age calculator turns your date of birth into an exact age in years, months and days. It reads real calendar dates, so months of different lengths and leap years are counted correctly instead of assuming every year has 365 days. Age is the gap between your date of birth and the chosen date (today by default). The calculator subtracts the day, then the month, then the year. When a part comes out negative, it borrows from the next larger unit: a month contributes the number of days in the previous month, and a year contributes 12 months. This is why the same one-month gap can be 28, 29, 30 or 31 days long.

A leap year has 366 days because 29 February is added. Years divisible by 4 are leap years, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400. So 2000 and 2024 were leap years, while 1900 was not.
February's length changes the result. Take a person born on 29/02/2020. On 28/02/2025, the borrowing method gives 4 years, 11 months, 30 days, because the previous month (January) has 31 days. On 01/03/2025 the same method gives 5 years, 0 months, 0 days.
People born on 29 February only have a calendar birthday every four years. Some places treat their birthday as 28 February in other years and some as 1 March, so check the rule for official documents.
