Tip Calculator
Calculate the tip on your restaurant bill and split the total between friends. Enter the bill, pick a tip percentage and see what everyone pays.
Tip Formula
Total = Bill + Tip
Each person pays = Total ÷ Number of people
Quick trick for a 20% tip: move the decimal one place left to get 10%, then double it. On a $60 bill, 10% is $6, so 20% is $12.

Common questions
How much should I tip at a restaurant in the USA?
Most diners tip 15% to 20% of the bill for good table service. 18% to 20% is common today, and 25% or more is a way to reward excellent service.
How do you calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. For example, a 20% tip on $85.50 is 85.50 × 20 ÷ 100 = $17.10.
Should I tip on the amount before or after sales tax?
Many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal. Tipping on the after-tax total is also fine and gives the server a little more.
How do you split a bill with tip?
Add the tip to the bill, then divide the total by the number of people. For a $138 total split four ways, each person pays $34.50.
